An FIR was filed with the Versova police on the basis of Bollywood actress Payal Ghosh's complaint accusing filmmaker Anurag Kashyap of sexual harassment in 2014.
According to a police officer, a probe will be launched regarding the case as the complaint is linked with an incident that occurred 6 years ago, TOI reported. Ghosh had requested the Prime Minister in a tweet to file an FIR against Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap following the accusations of Kashyap having ‘forced himself on her’.
FIR for outraging modesty of a woman lodged: Ghosh's lawyer
Ghosh and her lawyer had tried to file an FIR at Oshiwara police station on Monday. They were asked to come back with a written complaint. "An FIR has been lodged for rape, wrongful restraint, wrongful confinement and outraging the modesty of a woman. The statement of the victim has been recorded," lawyer Nitin Sapute said. He added that they were told to file the FIR at Versova police station.
Payal Ghosh, who has worked in projects like the TV show Saath Nibhana Saathiya and movie Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi, in a statement to ANI, said that Kashyap made “her feel uncomfortable.”
Ghosh's tweet accused Kashyap
Ghosh has claimed that she was sexually harassed by the filmmaker. On 19th September, she tweeted, “@anuragkashyap72 has forced himself on me and extremely badly. @PMOIndia @narendamodi ji, kindly take action and let the country see the demon behind this creative guy. I am aware that it can harm me and my security is at risk. Pls help!”
The National commission of Women (NCW) responded to this tweet, asking Ghosh to send the detailed complaint for them to investigate. While Kangana Ranaut came in support of Ghosh, Taapsee Pannu, Richa Chadha, Mahie Gill and Huma Qureshi tweeted in favour of Kashyap, the director of the famous series Gangs of Wasseypur. Richa Chadha even sent Ghosh a legal notice for defamation as Ghosh had claimed that Chadha, Gill and Qureshi are 'just a call away' for Kashyap.

Bashing these allegations, Kashyap tweeted that “these allegations are baseless”. In a series of tweets, the filmmaker dismissed the allegations, describing them as “an attempt to silence” him. He even tweeted that he has received a number of phone calls asking him not to respond to the allegations. Kashyap’s ex-wife Kalki Koechlin and first wife Aarti Bajaj came out in support of him recently. Read more about the case here.
