A case has been filed against former Uttar Pradesh minister and Jansatta Dal (Loktantrik) president Raghuraj Pratap Singh, alias Raja Bhaiya’s wife, and three other people associated with a private news channel.
Cases including criminal conspiracy, defamation, and insulting the dignity of a woman were filed against Raja Bhaiya’s wife, Bhanvi Kumari, and three other people at the Hazratganj police station on Monday.
FIR Against Ex-UP MLA's Wife
The complaint was filed by Bhanvi Singh’s sister, Sadhvi Singh, under sections 500 (defamation), 120 b (criminal conspiracy), and 509 (usage of obscene or indecent words with the intent to insult the dignity of a woman) under the Indian Penal Code.
According to her complaint, Sadhvi Singh claimed that in a special programme telecasted by the news channel on August 28 about Raja Bhaiya and Bhanvi Singh’s divorce, objectionable allegations were made regarding her relationship with her politician brother-in-law.
She also alleged that the false and fabricated charges were levelled against her as there was an ongoing dispute over ancestral property between her and her sister. She stated that no one from the channel verified with her or asked for her side of the story before running the news.
Further, Sadhvi Singh warned that she would be forced to take the extreme step of killing herself to protect her dignity if no action was taken against the guilty. The police said that the matter is being investigated.
Raghuraj Pratap Singh is a long-term MLA from the Kunda constituency in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district. He was elected to the Assembly in 2022 after floating the Jansatta Dal (Loktantrik).
He had earlier contested elections as an independent candidate and had also served as a minister in the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and Samajwadi Party (SP) governments in Uttar Pradesh.
Raghuraj Pratap Singh is currently caught in a dispute and divorce battle with his wife, Bhanvi Singh.
