The makers of Prime Video's latest web-series Tandav have landed in legal trouble, as an FIR was filed against them in Uttar Pradesh for hurting religious sentiments. The FIR also names Prime's India head of original content Aparna Purohit, apart from the show's director Ali Abbas Zafar, producer Himanshu Krishna Mehra, and writer Gaurav Solanki among others.

The FIR was filed at Lucknow's Hazratganj police station. The complaint against the makers states that the first episode of the show has, "conversations that lead to caste conflict, there are similar scenes in many other episodes. In the web series, the character of the person occupying the high post of India's Prime Minister has been shown in a very indecent manner." the complaint also added that the show also has scenes that insult women, and the intent seems to be to "hurt religious feelings of one community and to spread conflict."
UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's media adviser Shalabh Mani Tripathi shared a copy of the FIR on Twitter, warning that arrests in the case may soon follow.

On Sunday the Ministry for Information and Broadcasting sought an explanation from Amazon Prime, after BJP MLA Manoj Kotak wrote to I & B minister Prakash Javdekar, seeking a ban on the web-series as it allegedly hurt religious sentiments. According to Hindustan Times, another BJP leader Ram Kadam claimed that he had filed a complaint against the show's makers at Mumbai's Ghatkopar Police station.

Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, Tandav premiered on Prime Video on January 15. The show stars Saif Ali Khan and Dimple Kapadia in lead roles, along with Sunil Grover, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Kritika Kamra, Sarah Jane Dias, Kritika Avasthi and Bhavna Chaudhary.
BJP worker Kapil Mishra revealed in a tweet today that a notice has been issued to Amazon Prime India, for immediate removal of the show from the OTT platform.

As per the latest news, the makers have now apologised unconditionally after the FIR was filed. The said they did not intend to offend any religious beliefs or sentiments through the show.
