A Madhya Pradesh farmer donated 2 lakh rupees to the local administration to buy medical oxygen. Champalal Gurjar, from the Neemuch district, had set aside that money for his daughter’s marriage.
Champalal Gurjar, the farmer donated 2 lakh rupees to district collector Mayank Agrawal so that two cylinders of medical oxygen could be bought. One oxygen cylinder was for the district hospital and the other one was for Jeeran Tehsil, where he lives.
Gurjar’s daughter Anita got married on April 25. He said that “To make my daughter’s marriage memorable, I donated two lakh to the district administration so that they can buy two oxygen cylinders”. Anita had no issues with her father donating the money and said that “Right now, there is a dire need for medical oxygen given the surge in COVID-19 cases”.
After the farmer donated 2 lakh rupees, the district collector Mayank Agrawal praised the farmer’s decision. He said that “If others take a cue from the farmer and donate, the fight against the pandemic will become a lot easier.”
On April 22, Madhya Pradesh crossed 4,50,000 COVID-19 cases after 13,107 cases were reported in one day. By April 25, the number of cases reached 4,99,304. The Bhopal district administration extended the curfew till May 3 as the daily cases continue to rise.
Farmers in Madhya Pradhesh enrolled in the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi will receive 4,000 rupees in two instalments. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced that the next instalment of the scheme would be given to farmers immediately as relief amid the COVID-19 pandemic. In the same address, Chouhan stated that the infection positivity rate (detection per 100 COVID-19 tests) has declined from 24.29 per cent to 23 per cent.
The Madhya Pradesh government declared that all eligible people above the age of 18-years-old will be vaccinated for free from May 1.
