As the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Election approaches, the Congress party lost one more candidate in the state. Farah Naeem, who was the party's candidate from Shekhupur Assembly seat in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh resigned after alleging inappropriate remarks by the district party president.
In an interview with ANI, Naeem recounted Onkar Singh, the district party president, allegedly saying that Muslim women should not get tickets. "Party district president Onkar Singh said Muslim women should not get a ticket & that I'm a characterless woman. Women are not safe in the district unit," said Naeem.

She also said that Singh tried to throw mud on her character and other women by putting across this comment. She added that Congress wants to vote from every jati and biradri but Singh left no space and tried to threaten her. "If people like Onkar Singh are present in this party then I will not run for the election and I resign," she said.

When asked about the allegations by Singh against her, she said, "There have been talks that I do not have enough money to survive. The second allegation he made is that I am characterless. He made several allegations that have pained and hurt me."
While breaking down, she said, "I am a girl and I can fight (the Congress party's slogan for UP election) and that is why I will not break." After her resignation, Congress has now fielded Mamata Devi Prajapati from the Shekhupur Assembly constituency in Badaun. The elections to the 403 assembly constituencies in UP are going to be held in seven phases from February 10. The polling will be held on February 10, 14, 20, 23, 27 and March 3. The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
The party announced the names of 125 candidates, out of which 50 were women. This promise to have 40 percent women candidates was made by the political party during a press meet at the party's office in Lucknow in October 2021.
