In recent times, India has seen a rise in the number of communal issues and comments being made by people at the top brass of Indian politics. Recently, a Member of Parliament Navneet Rana and her husband stated that they would like to read Hanuman Chalisa in front of the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackeray's residence.
This led to massive protests and Shiv Sena workers gathering outside the MPs' apartment and slogans against her. A few of them also tried getting inside the premises but were stopped and the matter was diffused by the police. Later on Saturday evening Rana couple were arrested and charged under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Recently the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Fahmida Hassan Khan wrote a letter to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking permission to allow her to read holy scriptures of every religion in front of the Prime Minister's residence.

The North Mumbai district working president Khan wrote in the letter that she wishes to chant namaz, hanuman chalisa, namokar mantra, guru granth sahib and others outside Modi's residence at Lok Kalyan Marg. She urged the minister to provide her with a date and time. She also added that if by doing this, issues like inflation, and unemployment, amongst others will reduce, then she would like to do it.
This was in response to Saturday's incident when the couple decided to read hanuman chalisa in front of CM's residence. After their initial announcement of the plan, the way out of their house was blocked by the political party's worker groups. They challenged the couple to step out for the task they had taken. Rana couple after a few hours of announcing their schedule decided not to carry on as Prime Minister Narendra Modi was about to visit the next day and they did not want bad law and order situation on their hand.
Reacting to the situation the former CM Devendra Fadnavis said that the government handled the situation in a "childish" manner and that they should have let the couple go and recite hanuman chalisa, that way they would not have made it to the news. "I don't understand why so many people have collected in various locations as though they were organising an attack. What kind of politics is that?"
