In yet another horrifying incident, a seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered in Etah district of Uttar Pradesh. The girl had reportedly come to attend a wedding when the incident took place.
The accused behind the rape was there to set up tents for the ceremony. Her body was recovered in an under-construction home near the wedding venue. The accused tried to escape but the police eventually caught him. According to sources, the girl was a resident of Sitalpur. She was accompanying her parents to attend the wedding of a local journalist’s sister.

The girl belonged to a humble family. Her father has a small garment shop. She went missing during the garland exchange ceremony. The parents were on a look out for her.
“Later, around 12.30am, the unconscious girl was found semi-naked, with strangulation marks on her neck. Her abdomen also had blood stains,” said a source.
The parents took her to the Etah government hospital where she was declared brought dead.
Additional SP, Etah (crime), Om Prakash Singh, said, “The post-mortem report has confirmed sexual assault. The victim’s private parts had severe ruptures and she was strangled. The accused has been booked under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 376 (rape) and sections of the POCSO Act.”
According to a police source, the accused is devoid of any criminal history and used to work as a daily wager.
Crimes against girls on a rise
There has been a surge in cases of violence against girls. Recently, the Kathua and Unnao cases have already set off shock waves in the country with people taking the streets to protest against the brutality with which some people dare to harm children.
