Juno star Elliot Page has filed for divorce from Emma Portner after three years of marriage.
Elliot on Tuesday filed the legal documents in Manhattan, New York seeking an end to their marriage. Page and Portner married in January 2018. Their marriage was a surprise for many. Inside pictures of them together were shared on Instagram by page with a caption, "Can’t believe I get to call this extraordinary woman my wife."
The now-estranged couple in a joint statement said, "After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce following our separation last summer."
The separation for the couple comes two months after Page came out as a transgender male in a heartfelt statement. Previously he came out as gay in 2014.
Portner supported Page and wrote a heartwarming message on Instagram. The message read, "I am so proud of @elliotpage. Trans, queer and non-binary people are a gift to this world. I also ask for patience & privacy but that you join me in the fervent support of trans life every single day. Elliot's existence is a gift in and of itself. Shine on sweet E. Love you so much."
While talking to the People, the couple noted that they had separated in summer 2020. They further told the media site that they will remain close friends even after the split.
