It must be such a huge responsibility to walk the red carpet at one of the most prestigious Film Festival—Cannes. More than men, women have to wear visibly uncomfortable ensembles to look different and Cannes-worthy to pass the fashion police. While the female personalities make it look so effortless, the effort shows when your dress is the reason for your losing conscience at the festival as is what happened with famous American actor Elle Fanning.
The Monday evening had the Cannes invitees attend the Chopard Trophee dinner. Among those invited were Fanning along with her sister Dakota Fanning. During the course of the party, Elle fainted without warning and fell off her chair, according to Variety. Sister Dakota and actor Colin Firth immediately came to her rescue to save the night for Elle. “She quickly recovered before leaving,” an eyewitness told E! News.
Festival director Thierry Fremaux had just introduced actor Francois Civil onstage when Fanning, star of “The Beguiled” and “Maleficent,” collapsed and fell off her chair nearby.
While the incident took place so quickly, even the people present in the room did not find out about the mishap. “Most people in the room didn't even notice until after there was a brief pause, during which word quickly spread through the venue about what happened,” the source added.

However, the actor cleared the air later when she took to Instagram and clarified that she did faint and her dress was the reason behind her fainting. She was wearing a blush Prada gown with a corset-like bodice. She wrote, “Oops, had a fainting spell tonight in my 1950's Prada prom dress but it's all good!!” The Beguiled actor posted the caption on Instagram along with her picture wearing a pair of comfy pajamas.

Cannes Film Festival 2019 kicked off with much pomp and show on May 14 as entertainment industry artists from around the world graced the red carpet in intricate gowns. Deepika Padukone, Kangana Ranaut, Hina Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai, Diana Penty, Huma Qureshi, Mallika Sherawat, and Priyanka Chopra walked the red carpet and represented India on the world stage. They all have been serving us looks with every passing day in equal magnanimity as any other Hollywood actor.
However, incidents like the one that happened with Fanning remind us of the lows of the fashion industry. That actors feel the need to deck up in the most challenging attires to make a “statement”. There has to be some limit to the so-called creativity of designers and stylists making actors wear excruciatingly painful outfits. And frankly, the “fashion-police” also needs to give it a rest on what makes for the most appealing attire as well as how one needs to fit in the set beauty standards to be known as “beautiful”.
