Droupadi Murmu files nomination for the presidential election as a candidate for the ruling NDA coalition in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Besides him, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP president J P Nadda and several other BJP leaders were also present when the filing of the nomination took place. PM Modi then handed over Murmu’s nomination papers to Returning Officer P C Mody.

Murmu is a BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) member and the official presidential candidate of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance in India in 2022. From 2015 until 2021, she served as the ninth Governor of Jharkhand. She was born in the Indian state of Odisha. Interestingly, She is the first tribal woman to be nominated for President of India and the first governor of Jharkhand to finish her five-year tenure.
Besides this, she was also the vice-president of the Scheduled Tribes Morcha of the Bharatiya Janata Party. She has also been Jharkhand’s first woman governor and was Odisha’s first female tribal leader to be elected governor of an Indian state. Murmu was chosen by the BJP as the National Democratic Alliance’s nominee for President of India in June 2022, ahead of the election the following month.
“Droupadi Murmu Ji has devoted her life to serving society and empowering the poor, downtrodden as well as marginalised. She has rich administrative experience and had an outstanding gubernatorial tenure. I am confident she will be a great President of our nation,” PM Modi tweeted.
