Dr R Bindu is all set to take oath as the new High Education Minister of Kerala. She was among the three women appointed to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan cabinet after the left-led party won the last assembly elections.

The new cabinet of Kerala assembly will have mostly new ministers with many first-timers. All the earlier ministers except the Chief Minister himself have been replaced. When the news of former health minister KK Shailaja also being dropped from the cabinet, the social media got flooded with posts in support of her and asking the state's ruling party to reconsider their decision. But KK Shailaja herself supported the party's move and called it a party policy to replace old ministers and give chance to first-timers.
Dr R Bindu who is going to get Education Ministry was appointed along with two other women, Chinchu Rani and journalist-turned-politician Veena George.
Here is what we know of Dr R Bindu:
- As per official reports, Dr R Bindu is a PhD in English Literature and has served as the head of the English Department and vice-principal of Sree Kerala Varma College.
- This also makes her the most well-read ministers in the new Kerala cabinet.
- By taking the Education Ministry, she will replace the former minister Dr K T Jaleel.
- Bindu was a member of the Students' Federation of India ( SFI). She is also a veteran of the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
- Dr R Bindu is also the first woman to become mayor of Thrissur Municipal Corporation.
- She is a central committee member of the All India Democratic Women's Association.
- Bindu's husband also holds a prominent position in the ruling party. His name is A Vijayaraghavan and he is the state secretary and former MLA of Communist Party of India (Marxist) CPI.
