Elavenil Valarivan wins gold: Indian duo of Elavenil Valarivan and Divyansh Panwar won the gold medal on Monday in the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team event at the ISSF World Cup in Delhi.
Valarivan and Panwar shot a combined total of 16 to earn the gold medal at the Karni Singh Shooting Range in the capital.
With this win, Elavenil Valarivan is now World No. 1 in the 10m Air Rifle events.
The dynamic duo emerged on the top of the podium by shooting a 10.4 each in the final. They edged past the Hungarian pair of Istvan Peni and Eszter Denes 16-10 (shot 10.7 and 9.9.) to take home the top prize. USA's Lucas Kozeniesky and Mary Carolynn Tucker finished third. Panwar had won the bronze in the 10m Air Rifle individual event on Saturday.
Elavenil Valarivan wins gold:
Valarivan, on the other hand, set a new record at National Shooting Selection Trials earlier this year. She shot a score of 253 at the finals of the National Shooting Selection Trials to claim the top honours in the women’s air rifle category on February 11. The 22-year-old Valarivan is the gold medallist in the 10m air rifle for women category in the World Cup and the World Cup finals in 2019.
The mixed team event is scheduled later this year at the Tokyo Olympics. This was India's fourth gold medal at the ongoing World Cup.
