Actress Dipannita Sharma has recently taken to Twitter to criticize the sexist comment made by Sanjay Dutt on The Kapil Sharma Show. The Sanju actor had a famous dialogue in his movie about having a 'score of 300 girlfriends'. This joke was repeated by him and Kapil Sharma at The Kapil Sharma Show.
What Happened?
Sanjay Dutt was at Kapil Sharma's show to promote his newest film, Panipat. In a promo of the episode, we can see Kapil recalling a scene from Sanjay Dutt’s biopic Sanju. Kapil asks him that a prayer thread has 108 beads, but the movie mentioned about his 308 girlfriends. Sanjay Dutt replies that the ‘308 count’ might continue. These comments are met by loud laughter from not only Kapil Sharma but also the audiences.
“An actor on a show to promote his next release talks about his score of over 300 girlfriends. The host & audience laughs in good jest. What if a woman said the same thing on a show? Would that be a joke too? This basic gender bias is what has always been wrong. The root of all evil!”
Dipannita Sharma's Reaction
Actor Dipannita Sharma took to Twitter to talk about how this comment is problematic. She pointed out the double standards when it comes to men and women. Her tweet read: She wrote, “An actor on a show to promote his next release talks about his score of over 300 girlfriends. The host & audience laughs in good jest. Many of Dipannita Sharma's followers agreed with her. They talked about the double standards existing in society at large, especially in Bollywood. They also pointed out the vulgarity of comparing ex-girlfriends to a 'score'. It is important to keep in mind the mass-appeal and huge reach of a show like The Kapil Sharma Show. Dipannita Sharma pointing out the problematic aspects of some of the comments made is crucial because lots of children watch the show as well.
It’s not so much as double standards as it is male arrogance. They shouldn’t talk about the number of women they’ve dated. It’s just cheap to call women a ‘score.’ I mean what sort of upbringing does one have to make a count of other human beings? Appalling!

Not A First For Kapil Sharma
This is not the first time that The Kapil Sharma Show has come under fire for objectifying women. The show is often criticized for its cheap humor and sexist jokes. Cross-dressing is also a common and recurring gag in the show, meant to be comic.

In 2017, a Delhi resident filed a complaint against AAP leader and poet Kumar Vishwas for making derogatory remarks about women on the show. He read a small poem in which he called married women as “Samaan”, meaning object in English. This infuriated a homemaker, who lives in Jeewan Park, and she lodged a complaint against the poet at Dabri police station of West Delhi. In the complaint, she said she was watching the show with her daughters and they asked her if they would become somebody’s “property” if they also get married.
