Here's How Desi Twitter Celebrated Neeraj Chopra's Historic Win At Tokyo Olympics

Neeraj Chopra Olympics: The Indian athlete became the first Indian track and field and second individual Indian athlete to win Olympic gold after his historic win on August 7 at the 2020 Tokyo Games. Soon after Chopra brought in India's first gold of the season, Indians made the athlete trend on Twitter big time with the hashtags of NeerajChopra and GoldGoldGold.

Chopra's win is indeed a historic moment for the country as an individual athlete gold for the country after more than a decade and for the second time overall after shooter Abhinav Bindra in 2008. The Olympic star topped the men’s javelin throw scoreboard with the best throw of 87.58 metres.

Jakub Vadlejch from the Czech Republic claimed the silver with a best attempt of 86.67 metres and Vitezslav Vesely claimed the bronze with 85.44 in the men's event.

The 2018 Commonwealth champion, Chopra, seized the lead after reaching the 87.03 mark in his first attempt itself, then he scored 87.58 m in second round which eventually won him the gold medal.

Apart from the cheers received from the crowd and the coaches, Chopra was massively lauded on social media. From dedicating special songs to the Olympic star to sharing enthusiastic tweets, desi Twitter did it all to celebrate this massive win in India's Olympic history.

Former Indian track and field athlete P.T. Usha took to her Twitter to congratulate the 23-year-old athlete and penned a not for him that reads, "Realised my unfinished dream today after 37 years. Thank you, my son, @Neeraj_chopra1"

Chopra's medal was dedicated to the late athlete Milkha Singh. One of the Twitter users wrote that Chopra fulfilled Singh's dream of seeing an Indian athlete win a gold at the Olympics track and field.
