The Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard trial case has resulted in many social media users and personalities stating their opinion and listing out information they had found. Like the case, the Depp Heard trial verdict is also being debated by the general public. The Depp-Heard trial verdict ruled that Heard had defamed Depp in the 2018 op-ed in Washington Post. Depp was awarded 15 million dollars and Heard was awarded 2 million dollars in a counterclaim.
Since the verdict came out, the internet seems to be divided. While Depp supporters are happy with the verdict, there are many more who are rather sombre. Many users have shared threads on the social media website about how Heard's claims are not misplaced. The Twitter user had initially been neutral during the trial until new information was revealed which changed her thoughts.
She associated DARVO with the trial. What is it? DARVO stands for Deny, Attack, and Reverse Victim and Offender. It has been characterised by researchers as a common manipulation strategy of psychological abusers. Based on it, the Twitter user listed the following information along with screenshots and recordings of evidence.
The user stated that it seems that Depp’s violence appears to have started first. This includes a screenshot of a text chat between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp’s assistant Stephen Dueters regarding Depp’s behaviour on a flight. In the chat, Dueters texts that “It was disgusting. And he knows it.”
In the following message, he added, "He was appalled. When I told him he kicked you, he cried." In later text messages Depp once again stated that he was “blacked out”, “screamed obscenities” and “insulted people”.
Later, in Depp’s testimony in the United Kingdom trial regarding the accident, he claimed that he had “good recollection” of his behaviour and was not blackout drunk.
Another example listed out by the user was that Depp blamed Heard for part of his finger getting cut off. But there is audio of him saying “the day I chopped my finger off”.
The Twitter user listed several of such instances along with the recording as proof. There is an audio recording of Depp admitting that he head-butted Heard, but during the United Kingdom trial, he had denied the accusation. After he heard the recording, he changed his story.
There is another audio of a private conversation between Heard and Depp in which Heard says that he beat her after she broke up with him. Depp does not deny or contradict the accusation and replies “I made a huge mistake I won’t do it again”.
The Depp Heard trial verdict has negative repercussions on all victims of domestic violence and abuse. The Independent reported the case was being used to terrorise and gaslight people being abused.
