Delhi woman raped in moving car: Two men from Noida were arrested for allegedly raping a woman in a moving car and throwing her out in the Shastri Park area of Delhi this week.
On the complaint of the survivor, the police registered a case, started an investigation and the accused were arrested within hours of the incident, police said on Thursday. The incident also comes on the heels of the alleged rape and murder of the nine-year-old girl near Delhi Cantt area.
The woman reported the incident to police on Monday evening (August 16) and based on her complaint, she was counselled, an officer said. Her statement was recorded and she was subsequently taken for medical examination. She told the police that the car was registered in the name of one of the accused, identified as Rohit, and the cops tracked him and his associate, Nitin, and they were brought in for questioning.
According to the information given to the police, the two accused had picked up the woman from Ghaziabad. She had reportedly hesitated at first but then entered the car to come to Delhi. The woman and the accused are all from Surajpur in Uttar Pradesh's Noida and they were friends for quite some time. On Monday, the two had brought the survivor to Delhi on the pretext of offering her a job, according to the complainant. The 35-year-old woman was allegedly raped by the duo inside the car. Later she was thrown out of the car while the men fled the scene.
She said to have had befriended the accused on social media. She told the police that the accused had also threatened to kill her if she opened her mouth about the incident to anyone. Meanwhile, police have seized the car and sent both the accused to judicial custody. A case was registered under sections 376 (D) (punishment for gang rape) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
This case is a wake-up call to the rising list of crimes against women that the capital is infamous for. Also referred often to as the rape capital of India, the city ranked first among 19 metropolitan cities in India in recording the highest number of crimes against women, according to data released by the National Crime Records Bureau.
