In a new development to the case, the Delhi Police have claimed that the victim was not alone on the scooty when the incident occurred.

“When we traced the route of the deceased, it was found that she wasn't alone on her scooty. A girl was with her at the time of the accident. She suffered injuries & fled from the spot but the deceased's legs got stuck in the car, after which she was dragged," the police said.

The accused Deepak Khanna had borrowed a car at around 8 pm on December 31. After picking up his other four friends, all five headed to Murthal in Haryana. All five people have been arrested and booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, causing death due to negligence and rash driving. They were produced before the court which sent them to three-day custody.

The accident prompted the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) to issue a notice to the Delhi Police in connection with the incident.

A large number of people gathered outside the Sultanpuri Police Station and blocked traffic demanding punishment for the five accused. Videos show a massive crowd outside the police station.
