Woman Faces Death Threats After Advertising About Religious Conversion

Delhi woman faces threats after conversion: The Delhi High Court on July 12 issued a notice to News organisations Zee News and Navbharat Times after a woman filed a petition stating that she was facing threat to her life and that of her family members after she issued an advertisement about her religious conversion in April this year.

The plea also claimed that the mentioned media organisations published malicious content with regard to her conversion without her consent. The petition submitted to the High Court said that the woman was aggrieved by her name and identity being revealed in several media channels without her consent.

Concerning the death threats to the 31-year-old woman, Justice Rekha Palli demanded assurance by the Delhi Police that it will extend protection to the woman. According to a report by Indian Express, the woman who converted her religion to Islam back in 2012, issued advertisements for a change of religion and name recently in April this year.

Gazette notification of the advertisement was also issued in this regard on April 17 this year.

The said plea claimed that soon after the advertisement, a television channel broadcasted news in which the conversion certificates of the woman were revealed after the UP police allegedly leaked the documents.

The woman in her plea said that she is under threat of being taken to Uttar Pradesh by force. In the plea, she also stated that she was being searched for. The woman reportedly hails from Lucknow and has been working in Delhi.

"She and her family are being targeted and malicious contents about her are being published in the media every day," the petition read, "which seeks to be immediately stopped,".
