Delhi University has opened the undergraduate admission process for the 2024–25 academic year, which will commence in August 2024. According to DU registrar Vikas Gupta, as reported by Press Trust of India, the university underwent a major upgrade this year, allocating quotas for single girl children across all programs as part of the supernumerary seats. This is in addition to the standard admission policy, which is essentially intact.

Merit Allocation

Based on merit, a single girl child will be allotted one seat per course in each college under this new quota. These seats are in addition to the colleges' existing authorized capacity. This program expanded on the creation of a supernumerary category last year, which made it easier for orphans to get admitted. Each college will receive one seat each for a male and a female orphan for every course.

The DU authorities introduced the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) for undergraduate admissions. It comprises 69 schools and departments and has 71,000 seats available altogether. The single girl child reservation is a notable addition to this year's otherwise unchanged admissions criteria.

Registration Phases

After registering on the CSAS portal in the first phase, seats are assigned in the second phase. There is also a mid-entry option available for those who can't register by the initial deadline; this allows them to join for a non-refundable fee of Rs 1,000. However, seats that have already been allotted to other candidates who registered on time cannot be filled by these late applications.

Students may now register for CSAS using the online portal, and it will stay accessible for about one month. Following the June 30 CUET UG results, the second round of admissions will begin. As with the previous year, CUET results will be used to determine admission to both undergraduate and graduate programs at DU. For PhD admissions, the institution will also take into account CUET results.

Similar to the previous year, the institution will admit more students than there are seats available to accommodate withdrawals that may occur later in the academic year. According to Registrar Vikas Gupta, "this year's admissions were 20% over the number of seats available in the general category, and an additional 30% of students will be admitted under the SC/ST and PwD categories."

The entrance exam-based admission method was implemented by DU last year, replacing decades of admissions through cutoffs based on class XII marks. In 2021, the final year of cut-off-based admissions, ten college-wide programs had a fixed cutoff of 100%.
