Delhi Schools Reopen: The National Capital has decided to reopen its schools for classes VI to XII in a phased manner. While Classes IX to XII will start from September 1 classes VI to VIII will welcome back their students from September 8th.
The government notification for the classes to go offline for senior secondary and secondary schools came today. Earlier Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had said that the government is evaluating its options and is keen on starting physical classes.

CM had said that they wanted the schools to be reopened but don't want to take any risk with the safety of students. The national capital region’s schools were shut down in April in the wake of the second wave of COVID-19. The government also advanced the summer vacations and board exams for classes X and XII were cancelled.
The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), in its report, had recommended that schools are reopened. It suggested that senior students are called in the first. The national capital, Lieutenant Governor Baijal on 6 August had asked officials to set up an expert committee.
Earlier Telangana had also announced that it will reopen schools and colleges beginning September 1st. CM of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday announced that schools for all classes will reopen after Durga Puja vacation in October. However, Himachal Pradesh announced its decision to keep the schools closed till September 4th.
In July Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), suggested that children can handle the COVID-19 infection much better as compared to adults and stressed prioritising the reopening of primary schools. However, it must be noted that in India the vaccination of children below the age of 18 has not started.
On August 20, a government panel gave its nod to Zydus Cadila’s 3-dose COVID-19 Vaccine named ZyCov-D. It has conducted a late-stage trial on more than 28,000 volunteers nationwide and showed an efficacy rate of 66.6% as per the reports. It also claims the vaccine to be safe for children between 12 and 18 years of age. Its trial data, however, needs peer-reviewing.
