School Peon Molests 4-Year-Old At Playground In Delhi's Rohini Area

A four-year-old girl was reportedly molested by a peon at a private school in Delhi's Rohini. Following a complaint from the minor girl’s mother, the accused was arrested. The mother claimed that her daughter was molested on May 9 while playing on the school grounds.

The mother told the police that she had enrolled her daughter at the school on May 1. On Wednesday, May 10, the child told her mother she was playing in the school’s playground when a man with a moustache came and touched her private parts. When she began crying, the man threatened her with dire consequences.

Delhi School Peon Molests Girl

The girl had told her mother that she didn’t know the man’s name but could identify him. The girl was sent for a medical examination and counselling. Police officers questioned the school staff and took identification of those with a moustache. The child identified Sunil Kumar as the accused among the staff with a moustache. Sunil Kumar, a resident of Sultanpuri, had been working as a peon at the school since 2010.

A police officer told TOI that they are trying to find out if the school authorities conducted a police verification and background check before hiring him. The police are also investigating if the accused has molested other girls in the past.

Police have filed a case under Section 354 B (assault or use of criminal force on a woman with intent to disrobe) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 10 of the POCSO Act at the Rohini South Police Station.

11-Year-Old Molested by Teacher

In April 2023, an 11-year-old girl was allegedly molested by a teacher at a private school in the Yamuna Vihar area of Delhi. The accused, Rajeev, 37, worked as a lab assistant at the school for the past five years. The girl reported that he had molested her at the school, after which he was arrested under relevant IPC sections and the POCSO Act by the Bhajanpura police station.

14-Year-Old Raped By Principal

Earlier this year, in January, a trust-run private school’s principal of a Nagpada area of central Mumbai was arrested for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl. The police said that the 50-year-old principal had raped the minor girl a month earlier and had again tried to take advantage of her in January.

The second time, the girl informed her mother of the incident, who registered a complaint with the police. The police filed a chargesheet under relevant IPC sections and under the POCSO Act. A team of Nagpada police went to arrest the accused but couldn’t find him at his house or at the school.
