A 30-year-old woman was sexually assaulted at New Delhi Railway Station by four employees in the electrical department. The woman was assaulted by the employees at the station on the pretext of providing her with a job on the railway.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways) Harender K Singh said that the four accused were railway employees in the Electrical Department and have been held. The accused were identified by Satish Kumar, Mangal Chand Meena, Jagdish Chand, and Vinod Kumar.
The police received a call from the survivor. She informed the police that she has been separated from her husband for the past year and was seeking a divorce. She came in contact with the accused, Satish Kumar, through a mutual friend around two years ago. Kumar informed her that he was a railway employee and claimed he could arrange a job for her.
Delhi Railway Station Rape Case
On July 21, Kumar invited her to his home for his son’s birthday party and house-warming party. She travelled to the Kirti Nagar metro station and was picked up by the accused and brought to the New Delhi Railway Station. Kumar asked the survivor to sit in the lighting hut meant for electrical maintenance staff.
The police said that Kumar and his friend entered the room, bolted it from the inside and then sexually assaulted the woman. Meanwhile, two of Kumar’s accomplices guarded the room from the outside.
An FIR of gang rape was registered against the four railway employees, including the two accomplices who facilitated the assault by guarding the door against the outside. The four accused were arrested within two hours of the FIR being registered and were produced before a Delhi court. The court sent them to 14-day judicial custody.
The survivor was taken to a government hospital that was nearby and underwent a medical test. The medical report established that the woman was sexually assaulted.
The FIR was registered under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 476D (gang rape) and 342 (wrongful confinement).
