A 27-year-old groom, Avinash Kumar who was down with dengue and suffering from a platelet count as low as 10,000 did not let his illness disrupt him from taking his wedding vows in the hospital. In the strange incident from East Delhi, the wedding rituals of a patient were performed in the hospital in the presence of 10 family members and medical staff.
It was reported that the families did not want to miss the auspicious 'muhurat' as the hospital authorities. This led the hospital authorities to observe the gravity of the situation and hence allowed the strange request of the families.
Groom Down With Severe Dengue Takes Wedding Vows
On the evening of November 27 at Max Hospital in Vaishali, a patient was not just treated in the hospital but was also assisted in getting married to his bride. Just days before his wedding on November 25, Avinash Kumar was admitted to the High Dependency Unit of the hospital as he was diagnosed with Dengue and his platelets dropped to 10000, a number that is counted as a high risk.
The doctors could not let a patient as critical as Kumar get discharged from the hospital care. Soon after, when his fiancé Anuradha and her family visited him in the hospital to check up on his health, it struck them that the couple could get married in an intimate ceremony in the hospital itself so that they would not miss the auspicious time.
A Hospital Wedding
While Kumar's father wanted to postpone the wedding as his son's health showed no signs of improvement, he was also worried that the bride's family had already done all the preparations that would go in vain.
As both families agreed upon the idea the hospital authorities observing the gravity of the situation accepted the strange request of the families and turned the hospital into a wedding venue allowing niptuals to be held in a meeting room of the hospital.
The family ditched the lavish wedding banquet for the hospital meeting room. The groom was dressed in a sherwani and the bride donned her wedding lehenga, post which they took their wedding vows in the presence of ten family members and the medical staff.
Anuradha (bride) who is also a nurse in a hospital in Faridabad told TOI, "I never thought that my baraat would not come and instead I will go to a hospital with my family to get married."
Dr Ruchi Ranawat, medical superintendent of Max Vaishali said that the wedding took place adhering to the protocols with the presence of doctors and nurses. She further informed TOI that his platelet count has been improved to 40000 but he has yet not been discharged even after his wedding and is being treated in the internal medicine department.
