In a shocking incident, a man allegedly strangled his live-in partner, cut her body into 35 pieces, and dumped them in Delhi's Mehrauli forest over the course of 18 days, according to police sources. Every day at 2 am, he would leave the house to dispose of the body parts, according to sources. The accused has been placed in 5-day police custody.
The Delhi Police have detained a man for allegedly killing his girlfriend, dismembering her body, and discarding the pieces throughout the city. According to the police, the incident happened in May of this year but wasn't discovered until six months later.

- Aftab Ameen Poonawala, 28, is accused of strangling his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar following a dispute on May 18. According to sources, he then cut her body into 35 pieces and purchased a 300-litre refrigerator to store them. He dispersed the pieces throughout the Mehrauli forest over the course of the following 18 days, they added.
- Ankit Chauhan, Additional DCP-I, South district, said, ''The duo fell in love while working in Mumbai and came to Delhi by April-end or May first week after facing opposition from their families. While they were living in the national capital, they had an argument in mid-May over marriage, which escalated and he strangled her.''
- He said, "The accused had preserved the woman's body in a fridge and disposed them on different occasions."
- Shraddha, who was 26 years old, met Poonawala while working at a call centre for a large corporation in Mumbai. The two got together and moved in together. The couple eloped and arrived in Delhi after her family disapproved of their relationship. They moved into a Mehrauli apartment and began to live there.

- Soon after, one of her friends told Shraddha's brother that she had left her phone off for more than two months. When her father, Vikas Madaan Walkar, visited Delhi to check on his daughter on November 8, he discovered that her apartment had been locked. He went to the Mehrauli Police and reported a kidnapping, according to his complaint.
- Walkar claimed in his complaint that Shraddha had previously told him that Poonawala frequently beat her. This led to Poonawala's arrest by police on Saturday.
- According to police sources, he admitted during the investigation that they frequently quarrelled because Shraddha wanted to wed him.
- Police reported that some remains had been found in the forest, but it is unknown whether they are human remains. They claimed that the accused, who was reportedly trained as a chef, did not yet have the knife that he used.
- Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal said in a tweet, "This is one of the most shocking cases that I have seen during my tenure and I am amazed at the audacity of this man. He chopped her off into 36 pieces and was disposing of them daily. Strong action should be taken against him."
