A 55-year-old man killed his wife with an axe, attacked his two children, and slit his own wrist following a fight at their house in South Delhi’s Neb Sarai on Thursday. The accused, identified as Vijay Veer Singh, a builder, is hospitalised and will be arrested as soon as he is discharged.
The police revealed that the children managed to overpower him and snatch the axe from him. The incident took place around 5–6 a.m. on Thursday morning, and the children called the police at 6.24 am. Singh’s wife, Suman, was sleeping when he attacked her. He then went to the next room and attacked his children, Devika, 30, and Shashank, 28.
Delhi Man Axes Wife Attacks Children
South DCP Chandan Chowdhary said that they had received a call from a woman claiming that her father had attacked her mother with an axe. When the police reached the spot, they found the woman lying on the bed in a pool of blood with multiple injuries to the neck.
The daughter had an injury on the neck, and her brother had an injury on his neck and forehead. The accused was also found on the spot with his wrists slit. The children locked themselves in a room and called the police.
The family was shifted to a hospital, where Suman was declared dead on arrival. The South DCP said that a case of murder and attempted murder has been registered and that further investigations are ongoing.
Primary investigations revealed that the accused had been married to Sumar since 1992, and they belonged to Garh Mukteshwar, Uttar Pradesh. The accused allegedly used to harass his wife for not bringing dowry during the wedding. The family also said that the accused was not on good terms with his wife and children and never paid attention to them. It was also said that he used to physically abuse Suman when she objected to his drinking and abusive behaviour.
Police also revealed that the accused had attacked his family during a fight in 2017 and was arrested for attempting to murder his son. Since the children supported the mother, Singh had a grudge against them. In a fight between Singh and Suman, Suman fired at them. Shashank received a gunshot in the incident. Singh was arrested and imprisoned, but the family settled the matter. The police also added that Devika was a law graduate who was studying for exams.
The neighbours said that the family had been living there for about 10–12 years, and they weren’t aware of the fights. They only saw the police arriving and taking them out.
