Delhi infant dies in hospital after testing positive for coronavirus: A 150-day-old infant passed away at a hospital in New Delhi on Thursday due t COVID-19. The infant named Pari had spent the last six days on a ventilator fighting for her life. She was diagnosed with the deadly virus and was undergoing treatment at the GTB Hospital.
Her father Prahlad told NDTV, "She must have been in so much pain but could not express it to us." He also mentioned that his daughter's lungs were completely damaged because of the infection.
"Humanity is dying, not humans," said politician and social worker Jitender Singh Shunty, who helped Pari's family perform the last rite. He added that the cremation of this child made him and his team cry and the fact that this virus is attacking babies is very "dangerous". He went on to add, "But what is more dangerous is not getting the right treatment. The girl was truly an angel."
According to a Unicef report, lack of public health services may have caused additional 228,000 child deaths across South Asia in 2020, along with 11,000 additional maternal death. Meanwhile, children and younger people are at greater risk during the second wave of coronavirus that is leaving a trail of deaths in the country. Several hospitals are reporting a sharp rise in the number of children between the age of one and five landing up in hospitals. The total number of coronavirus cases in the national capital on Thursday has climbed to 10,489, according to the Delhi government.
