17-Year-Old Delhi Schoolgirl Injured In Acid Attack: 10 Things To Know

In a horrific incident, two men travelling by bike threw acid on a 17-year-old schoolgirl in Delhi's Dwarka district. The incident took place around 7:30 am on Wednesday, December 14. The acid attack resulted in injuries to both of the teenager's eyes.

The Delhi schoolgirl and her 13-year-old sister were walking by the roadside when two men on a bike slowed down and threw acid at the teenager's face.

According to the Delhi police, a phone call regarding the acid attack on the girl came around 9 am.

The incident was captured in CCTV footage and shows the two sisters walking by the roadside before the men throw acid at the elder girl.

The police said that the girl has identified two suspects. So far, the police have arrested three people in connection with the attack, they have been identified as Sachin Arora, Harshit, and Virender Singh.

Sachin and Harshit threw acid on the teenager and the accused had purchased the acid from an online retailer.

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) wrote to the CEOs of two e-commerce platforms about acid being easily available even though it is illegal.

• The young girl was taken to Safdarjung Hospital following the horrific acid attack. Her father spoke to the media and mentioned that the acid was thrown at the girl's face and resulted in injuries to her eyes.
• Her father mentioned that the two men had covered their faces and revealed that his younger daughter ran to the house and informed her family that acid was thrown at her sister.
• Delhi police officers spoke with the girl at the hospital and said that she identified two suspects in the acid attack.
• One of them has been detained and a probe is underway to nab the second.
• According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Dwarka, M Harshvardhan, another youth had emerged as a prime suspect during the investigation.
• Multiple teams have been formed to nab the accused and Harshvardhan said that action would be taken on all leads.
• According to the doctors, the teenage girl suffered 7 to 8 percent facial burns and that her eyes were also affected. Her condition is currently stable and she was admitted to the burn Intense Care Unit (ICU).
• Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal questioned the sale of acid in the national capital. The Supreme Court banned over-the-counter acid sales in 2013 yet acid attacks persist.
• The National Commission for Women (NCW) took cognizance of the attack and added that a team from the Commission would reach the hospital to inquire into the matter.
• The NCW added that it would provide help to the schoolgirl injured in the Dwarka acid attack.
