The police have detained a priest along with three others in the case on August 2 after allegations emerged that he allegedly raped and cremated the minor girl on August 1, without the consent of her parents. The Old Nangal crematorium priest reportedly convinced the deceased’s mother to cremate the girl by saying that during the post-mortem, doctors will steal her organs, so it was better to cremate her. The accused also discouraged the parents from informing the police about their daughter's death. The four accused men - priest Radhey Shyam, Kuldeep, Laxmi Narain and Salim - were arrested after the child’s family alleged foul play and staged a protest along with fellow villagers on Sunday night.

Here are ten things to know about the case:
1. The Delhi police informed on Monday that they have registered a case in the death of a minor girl and rape charges have been added to the FIR. Four men accused of the crime, including the priest, have been arrested in connection with the case.
2. Police said the death of a minor girl happened in suspicious circumstances who was cremated without her parents’ consent on Sunday after she was found dead the previous night. They said to have only found the burnt legs of the girl which were recovered from the crematorium ground. The post-mortem report is awaited.
3. The girl lived with her parents in the village in a rented house in front of a crematorium.
4. According to police, the girl had gone out of her house at around 5:30 pm on Sunday, looking to get cold water from the water cooler at the crematorium but never returned.
5. Around 6 pm, the priest from the crematorium, identified Radhey Shyam, and two-three other people, known to the girl's mother, called her there and showed her daughter's body. They told her that the girl died of electrocution and asked them not to inform the police, saying that getting the cops involved in the matter would only complicate it, PTI reported. They also suggested that a cremation should be held immediately.
6. Police received a call in the Police Control Room (PCR) at the Delhi Cantonment police station around 10.30 pm regarding the rape and death of a minor girl at Old Nangal.
7. There were burn marks between her left wrist and elbow and her lips also turned blue, a senior police officer said.
8. Protests were held outside the crematorium by locals on Monday evening, demanding justice for the minor girl.
9. A case has been filed with charges under the stringent laws against child sex abuse and crimes against scheduled castes and tribes. Sections 302 (murder), 376 (punishment for rape) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the India Penal Code have been added in the FIR following the mother’s statement, police said.
10. "If it was a case of electrocution, why did they (the suspects) not inform the police or send the girl’s body to any hospital for autopsy?" asked a neighbour of the deceased girl, further enquiring what was the urgency to cremate the girl, that too so late in the evening?
