Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal tweeted in support of the parents and students requesting the cancellation of Class 12 Exams without full vaccination.
Kejriwal also appealed to the Centre about the same. The Centre has already made the announcement that the Class 10 exams of the CBSE board will not be conducted this year. Further, CBSE has cancelled the Class 12 exam on Tuesday in the wake of the rising cases and the vaccination drive.
What is Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's stand in the case of Class 12 Board exams?
The Delhi Chief Minister tweeted in Hindi, "Students and parents are concerned about Class 12 exams. They think that Class 12 exams must not be conducted without full vaccination. I appeal to the Central government that the Class 12 board exams must be cancelled, and students should be evaluated based on their previous performance."
The CBSE had proposed two options for conducting the Board exams for Class 12. One was conducting regular exams only major subjects and the second was about holding exams of short duration at schools. The Board was proposing to conduct this activity during the period of July 15 to August 26.
The students, their parents supported by politicians are requesting the centre to not conduct the Class 12 Board exams due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases during and after the second wave hit the country. They have also mentioned the importance of postponing the exams until the vaccination drive is complete as it would pose a serious risk to the students to step out without vaccinations.
What does the Centre say about the Class 12 exams?
The students had filed a petition in the Supreme Court to which the Centre responded saying that the decision regarding the Class 12 exams would be taken in the course of the next few days. The next hearing for the petition in the Supreme Court is on June 3. But before that, CBSE has made the announcement of cancellation of Class 12 Board exams keeping in mind the safety of the students, teachers and invigilators.
Other political leaders like Akhilesh Yadav and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, have demanded the same. They said that the Class 12 exams should be cancelled as the second wave has not fully receded and the level of vaccination in the population is very low. They have also stressed the fact that not all students of Class 12 are eligible for the vaccine as of now as they are minors.
