After his Twitter account, Rahul Gandhi Instagram is facing heat from the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) for exposing the identity of the parents of the 9-year-old deceased Dalit girl who was allegedly gangraped in Delhi's southwest cantonment area.
Last week, following a complaint from the NCPCR, Gandhi's Twitter account was temporarily locked for violating the microblogging's site's policy. Read about it here. Twitter told the Delhi High Court, during the hearing of a petition demanding an FIR against the Congress leader, that they had pulled down the tweet featuring the dead girl's parents.
Gandhi, who took to Instagram after his Twitter account was locked, has sharply accused the latter of "interfering in our political process," claiming it is an "attack on the democratic structure" of India through a video statement titled 'Twitter's dangerous game.'
Action Against Rahul Gandhi Instagram? What NCPCR Is Saying
A video posted to Gandhi's official Instagram channel on August 4 shows him consoling the Dalit minor's parents inside a vehicle. "The only way to cope with this loss is justice," he captioned the post in Hindi.
The NCPCR points out the post violates Section 74 of the Juvenile Justice Act, which comes under Section 23 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The section says the circulation of content related to minors, revealing their identity or other particulars, is punishable.
A letter to Facebook from NCPCR demands due action in the case with regard to existing law.
The gruesome incident of the minor girl's alleged gangrape at a crematorium and death earlier this month sent shockwaves across the country. Four persons - three crematorium staff and one priest - are arrested in connection to the case. Locals in the area have been protesting around the site of the crime calling for urgent justice in the case.
