When the entire nation is cheering on for IPL fever, a little less noticeable record-breaking stand created by two India women cricketers. Openers Deepti Sharma and Punam Raut have scripted history by become the first pair to collect a 300-run stand in ODIs.
They hit centuries to score the highest partnership in women's ODIs and made 320 against Ireland Women at Potchefstroom in South Africa. The match was over and India women’s smashed a score of 358/3 in the 50 overs. The teams that are playing the Quadrangular series including India, Ireland, Zimbabwe and hosts South Africa.

Speaking about the feat by the India women's team, former chairperson of the BCCI women's selection panel Shanta Rangaswamy told ESPNcricinfo, "It's a great achievement for Indian women's cricket. It couldn't have come at a better time. Deepti is young and has a fabulous temperament. Her batting stands apart from most others and I think she has the capability to become one of the best allrounders in world cricket in the years to come."

With that achievement in fore, the first 300-run stand by any pair in women's ODIs, was long overdue. We all are well aware of the fact that in India, usually men cricketers get the spotlight more than women. And, amidst that, Deepti, all of 19 -- scored 188 and Raut 109 – surely a new hope to bring those hidden talents out in the front row.

The BCCI congratulates the duo for their outstanding performance as acting Hony. Secretary, Amitabh Choudhary, said: “The Indian Women’s team are on a record-breaking spree in the Women’s Quadrangular Series and I congratulate them for their all-round show. It started with Jhulan Goswami becoming the leading wicket taker in Women’s ODIs and today we have witnessed a plethora of records,” Hindustan Times reported.
“The Indian Women’s Team have not only been consistent in the ongoing series but they have dominated their opposition right from the start. With the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 just around the corner, I am confident that Team India will carry their winning momentum into the big event,” he added.

Sharma now stands as the second highest score by a woman in ODIs with 188 score, Belinda Clark of Australia who had scored 229 against Denmark in 1997, being the first one.
Meanwhile, this series is turning out to be a milestone for Indian women as women cricketers are on roll to create records here. Starting with Jhulan Goswami who became the highest wicket-taker in women’s ODIs last week less than a week back when she picked up her 181st wicket.
India women, till now, have played three matches in the series and notched up all three – beating Ireland by 10 wickets, South Africa by 7 wickets and Zimbabwe by 9 wickets.
