A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 hit a remote area of Nepal on November 3, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 128 lives. Nepalese authorities report that more than 140 individuals have sustained injuries, and there is grim anticipation that the death toll will continue to climb.

On November 4, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep sorrow for the loss of lives and the widespread damage caused by the devastating earthquake in Nepal.

Under the cover of night, locals were caught on camera sifting through the debris, desperately searching for survivors amidst the wreckage of collapsed residences and structures. The videos were profoundly unsettling for viewers. Here are five crucial details about the earthquake in Nepal.

Numerous homes suffered collapses or damage, leaving survivors huddled in fear outside while emergency sirens wailed in the background. The earthquake's tremors were so powerful that they reached as far as New Delhi, which is over 500 kilometres away.

Reports confirm the loss of at least 36 lives in Rukum West and 34 in Jajarkot, with the grim expectation of the death toll continuing to climb. Hari Prasad Pant, the Chief District Officer of Rukum West, provided an update, saying, "At least 36 people have been confirmed dead in Rukum West, and the toll is expected to rise further. This is the information we have been able to gather as of 5 a.m. local time."

Nepal's Prime Minister, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, extended his condolences for the significant loss of life and extensive infrastructure damage resulting from the earthquake.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his profound sadness over the loss of lives and the extensive damage caused by the powerful earthquake in Nepal. 

Nepal, situated in a geologically active region, experiences frequent earthquakes due to the collision of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, which formed the Himalayas.

Notably, a devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal in 2015, resulting in widespread devastation. The quake claimed the lives of nearly 9,000 people, leaving 22,000 injured, and led to the destruction of more than 500,000 homes. It also caused damage to or complete destruction of nearly 8,000 schools, leaving nearly a million children without access to classrooms.
