Dawood Ibrahim, India's most wanted criminal, has reportedly been hospitalised in Pakistan's Karachi for a critical undisclosed reason. Some reports claimed that the underworld don was allegedly poisoned by one of his men, while some also reported that he was suffering from a serious health condition. He is being kept under tight security as the only patient on his floor in the hospital and only accessible by his close family members, reports say.
It is believed that the 65-year-old don who orchestrated the blast attacks in Mumbai in 1993 has been hiding in Pakistan for decades. The blasts killed over 250 people and injured thousands, coming to be known as one of the worst events in India's history. So far none of the reports about his health have been confirmed by Pakistani officials.
India's Most Wanted Underworld Don Poisoned?
Dawood Ibrahim is reportedly the mastermind behind various other crimes like money laundering, drug smuggling, extortion, and arms smuggling. He is believed to be the leader of an organised criminal organisation called D-Company, which he founded in Mumbai in the 1970s. He is also said to have close links with the terror agency Lashkar-e-Taiba and Pakistan's Intelligence agency ISI.
In 2011, he was named number three on "The World's 10 Most Wanted Fugitives" by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation and Forbes. Recently, the Pakistani government listed Dawood and 87 others in its sanction list to avoid Financial Action Task Force (FATF) sanctions.
For years, India has been on the lookout for Dawood Ibrahim, providing several evidence for his presence in Pakistan. His nephew, Alishah Parkar, son of Dawood's sister Haseena Parkar, confirmed to India's National Investigating Agency in January that the underworld don had been living in Karachi's posh Clifton area, although Pakistan has denied sheltering him in the country.
His nephew also provided insights about his second marriage, saying, "Dawood Ibrahim has a second wife, a Pakistani Pathan. Her name is Maizabin. He has three daughters Marukh (married to Junaid, son of Javed Miandad), Mehrin (married), and Maziya (unmarried), and one son Mohin Nawaz (married)."
