Daughter Plans Parents' 25th Anniversary, After Getting Email From Father Who Died 10 Months Ago

Aly Mendoza, a 22-year old residing in Quezon City, Philippines, received an email from her father last month at 3:00 am. It took her by surprise, and even fear, for her father had passed away 10 months ago. Two days later, she found the resolve to open the email. To her surprise, it contained a set of instructions.

In the email, he told Aly to urge her mom to treat herself to her favourite food and pamper herself at the salon on the day of their anniversary.

Aly's parents would have celebrated their 25th anniversary this year on June 10. But her father passed away in 2019 from chronic kidney failure. Nevertheless, he had already planned a surprise in advance for his wife to celebrate their anniversary. In a scheduled email set to be delivered to his daughter a month before the occasion, he listed out a bunch of instructions - detailing everything from flowers to restaurant reservations - that would make the day special for his wife.

Preparations for the Anniversary

Aly's father's attention to detail towards everything his wife would say or do was heartwarming - a true testament of what real love looks like. He wrote he had arranged for flowers to be delivered every year to his wife on all special occasions henceforth - Valentine's Day, anniversary, birthday. In the email, he told Aly to urge her mom to treat herself to her favourite food and pamper herself at the salon on the day of their anniversary.

Attached to the email was also a letter that Aly's father had left for his wife, "which had all the words she needed to hear from him to be okay." 

Aly wrote that everything went according to plan. With assistance from a helper, she set up decorations around the house in time for the celebrations. At 6:00 am, her mother woke up to the surprise, and "the joy I saw in my mom's face made everything worth it. Of course my mom cried because she misses the love of her life but I could see how happy everything made her because she knew that everything was planned by my dad."

Aly Shares Her Story

Aly wrote about her father's email and detailed the preparations he had arranged for on social media revealing that at first she was scared to open it. "Who wouldn’t be scared to get and open an email from someone who passed away 10 months ago, plus it was 3:00am and I was finishing requirements and I was the only one awake in our whole house."

Aly wrote that even the flowers her dad had picked for his wife had significance to their relationship. "The flowers: My dad picked the flowers in her bouquet. White roses are special to my parents because when my dad was courting her, my mom had two suitors. She told herself that whoever gives her white roses was "the one" and obviously it was my dad who gave her white roses. Pink roses because dada knows that mamu loves light pink roses."

Of course my mom cried because she misses the love of her life but I could see how happy everything made her because she knew that everything was planned by my dad.

Aly further wrote on how her father managed to bring a smile on her mother's face despite not being by her side physically, "He literally thought of everything to make his great love feel all his love. They were supposed to celebrate their 25th silver wedding anniversary together today but God had other plans. But even if they’re not physically together, even though he’s no longer here, he was still able to surprise and make my mom happy. Not even death could stop my dad from loving my mom and showing her how much she meant to him."
