The dating app Bumble has come up with yet another new feature that might be most liked by men, while some women might be uncomfortable with it. After all, wouldn’t it be a little weird or creepy for some women to get compliments from completely random strangers online, even though it’s a dating app?
The app now has a feature that enables Indian users to send two complimentary messages per week to other users whom they see on their feed even before they match. This feature is available for all users of the app.
Dating App Offers Compliment Message Feature
The company explained that anyone using the dating app in India can send two complimentary messages per week to another user’s profile prompts, bio, or images. The company added that these compliments can be seen and received in two days through a user’s "Beeline" and their main "encounters page."
The dating app also mentioned that users will receive notifications about unread compliments upon opening the app.
The dating app claimed that this feature gave the community an opportunity to be more intentional about starting a conversation in a positive way. The company noted that users who engage with compliments statistically showed a higher likelihood of matching and were more likely to have a good chat.
The app’s new study found that 85 percent of Indians said that receiving a compliment from a potential romantic partner made them more interested. However, considering the huge gender imbalance on dating apps, in India, where the number of male users exceeds that of their female counterparts, this new feature might be annoying for some women because they might keep receiving several compliments from strangers every day.
Samarpita Samaddar, the Inda Communications Director of the app, said that the company believes in the power of positivity and kindness and that a compliment is the foundation of a conversation as it sets the stage for good communication. She added that using this compliments feature is a simple way of sending a kind message to someone’s profile that we come across with whom we likely share a common interest. Further, she said that kindness and respect have always been at the core of dating apps, and they believe that this lays the groundwork for healthy and equitable relationships.
