The results regarding the immune escape potential of the Omicron variant were released. The statement released by the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) says that the data based on the experiments show that Omicron immune escape capacity will be high. However, the data also concludes that the symptoms will not be as severe as the previous variants. It means that the immune system of the host, human beings, in this case, will find it harder to counter the virus.
In India, preparations are in process to avoid the severe outbreak of COVID-19 as seen in previous variants. Precautions and health measures are being taken to keep a check on the spread of the new variant of the virus. Looking at the global data and experiment results, INSACOG has issued the latest bulletin. It says that global trends show that vaccines and prior infections will not be effective enough to protect from the Omicron variant infection.

INSACOG On Omicron Immune Escape Capacity
INSACOG bulletin that released on December 29, 2021 says that earlier, Delta variant was considered the most widespread variant of COVID-19. However, Omicron has displaced the Delta variant in southern Africa. This variant will soon become the prominent variant in UK and in other parts of the world as well. They now have clear and confirmed proof about Omicron immune escape potential being high. Because of its high escape potential, Omicron will have more growth and spread as compared to the Delta variant.
INSACOG also issued statements about the severity of the symptoms of the new variant. They said that although the initial studies suggest that the illness and symptoms will be less severe than those caused by previous variants. However, nothing can be confirmed as the data and studies are still updating. For now, we need to know that the risk is high and prepare accordingly.
The results and data are established by the sequencing of samples from across the country. The studies also include the state-wise and district-wise analysis of the spread and symptoms of the virus. As per the updated data from the Union Health Ministry Of India, the total Omicron cases reported all over India are 781 out of which 241 have recovered.
