Dangal actress Zaira Wasim met with an accident in the Dal Lake in Kashmir on Thursday, reported news agency IANS. The 16 year old actress played the role of Aamir Khan’s onscreen daughter in the movie Dangal which was released last year and focussed on the life of young wrestlers, the Phogat Sisters.
Zaira was travelling in a car on the Boulevard Road in Srinagar when the driver lost control of the steering and the car fell into the Dal Lake. IANS reported that the she was immediately rescued from the lake along with her co-passengers by the locals present on the spot.
According to NDTV reports, "Locals immediately rescued her and her companion. She escaped unhurt, but her companion sustained injuries in the accident," a local told IANS.
Zaira Wasim played a role of Geeta Phogat in Dangal. She has even won National Award for her acting and won best supporting actress for the same movie. She has also been cast in the Aamir Khan's next production, Secret Superstar.
"It is very encouraging to receive an award of this stature in my debut film, the appreciation has only got me more excited to work harder," she had said after winning the award.
In NDTV report, Zaira in an interview had once said that she dislikes herself watching onscreen. "I hate to watch myself on the screen. It's annoying and embarrassing. I never watch my interviews. I am even scared to watch my film," IANS quoted her as saying.
In January, Zaira Wasim was trolled for a meeting with Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti. She had earlier apologised for offending people at the meeting by posting on her Facebook account and later deleted the same apology after she was criticised for the meeting. Aamir Khan and other Bollywood celebrities had tweeted in favour of the young actress.
