UP: Dalit Woman Drugged, Raped By Cop On Pretext Of Help

In Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj, a sub-inspector has been suspended by the police in connection with the rape of a Dalit woman who approached him with a complaint, as confirmed by an officer on September 26.

Investigation Details

According to Senior Police Official Sudhir Kumar, the victim accused Sudhir Kumar Pandey, who was in charge of the Jhanghai Police outpost, of raping her on September 21, as stated in her testimony.

Sub-inspector Pandey, who was stationed at Sarai Mamrej Police Station, has been charged under sections 376 (rape) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and also under the provisions of the SC/ST (Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) Act based on the woman's complaint. Pandey is currently absconding.

According to police sources, the woman had been facing harassment and death threats from certain individuals. She had approached the Jhanghai Police outpost in charge with her complaint. On the evening of September 21, Sub-inspector Pandey summoned her to the police outpost. Under the guise of arresting the individuals responsible, he took her in a car and offered her a cold drink laced with sedatives. He then sexually assaulted her when she became unconscious.

Police Commissioner Ramit Sharma has instructed ACP Sudhir Kumar of Handia to conduct an investigation into the matter.

Another City, Another Incident

In Uttar Pradesh's Agra, a police sub-inspector was restrained and assaulted by local villagers after he was discovered in a compromising situation with a woman. The woman's family has accused the police officer of sexual misconduct.

According to reports, the sub-inspector from the UP Police, identified as Sandeep Kumar, was allegedly drunk when he entered the house by climbing through the roof. Once inside, he began to make inappropriate advances toward a girl residing in the house.

When the girl raised an alarm, her family rushed to the scene and caught the police officer in a compromising position within their home, which was considered highly objectionable. The sub-inspector was taken into custody and charged with rape.
