Questions Hang Over Delhi Cantt Case Rape: Here's What Parents Of The Girl Said
The girl was found dead on August 1 near her home in the cantonment area after she went out to fill water from a cooler. The accused priest, present at the location, reportedly told her mother she was electrocuted. The woman told media he urged her for the cremation of her daughter, telling her not to make noise.
The case is making national headlines with opposition leaders demanding justice for the Dalit girl.
When a crowd surrounded the accused priest on the night of the incident, he allegedly confessed to raping the minor girl, as per a Newslaundry report. The accused during police interrogation earlier this week reportedly accepted they had cremated the victim by force.
The alleged rape and death case has been transferred to the crime branch of the Delhi Police. Under the Delhi Victim Compensation Scheme 2018, the deceased girl's family is to get Rs 2.5 lakh as interim compensation, as ordered by court. Parties fighting from the victim's side can move a new application for compensation in case investigations further throw up evidence of rape.
