Melinda Coleman, the mother of Netflix star Daisy Coleman, died by suicide four months after her daughter took her own life. News of the 58-year-old's death was shared by SafeBae, a sexual assault prevention group started by her late daughter. "There are no words for our sadness," the group wrote on Instagram. In August this year, 23-year-old Daisy Coleman, a teen rape survivor whose story was documented in Netflix's Audrie & Daisy, reportedly took her own life, by shooting herself while on a Facetime call with her boyfriend. Her mother, Melinda, had publicly grieved her death.

Writing on Melinda Coleman's suicide, SafeBae further wrote, "We are in shock and disbelief to share with our SafeBae family, that we lost Melinda Coleman to suicide this evening. The bottomless grief of losing her husband, Tristan and Daisy was more than she could face most days. Melinda was a gifted veterinarian, devoted mother and wife, and talented body builder." It is reported that Coleman's husband, Michael, and a son named Tristan, had also passed away in two different car crashes, apart from daughter Daisy's suicide. Now, Coleman is survived by her other two sons Logan and Charlie.

Melinda Coleman on her daughter's death

When Daisy Coleman had passed away in August this year, by a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Melinda Coleman wrote on Facebook, "My daughter Catherine Daisy Coleman committed suicide tonight. If you saw crazy / messages and posts it was because I called the police to check on her... I wish I could have taken the pain from her! She never recovered from what those boys did to her and it’s just not fair. My baby girl is gone." She had expressed that her daughter had been her "best friend" in a life that was full of losses.

SafeBAE's recent statement on the 58-year-old veterinarian's suicide mentions, "More than anything, she loved and believed in her children. It is no accident that she created some of the most gifted, passionate, and resilient children. Our hearts are with Logan and Charlie."

About Daisy Coleman

Daisy Coleman, around whom the 2016 award-winning Netflix documentary Audrie & Daisy revolved, was a teen survivor who had first made headlines after reportedly being raped in 2012 at a house party. Matthew Barnett, the grandson of a former Republican state representative, had allegedly raped her and left her outside in freezing temperatures. The incident had also allegedly been filmed by another boy at the party. Following the incident, Coleman had become an active spokesperson for sexual assault survivors, and appeared on various platforms with her mother Melinda, to vocalise the issue.

SafeBae (Before Anyone Else), the non-profit Coleman had founded for focusing on sexual assault survivors, had then written on her death, "She had many coping demons and had been facing and overcoming them all, but as many of you know, healing is not a straight path or any easy one. She fought longer and harder than we will ever know."
