Czech Duo Wins Wimbledon Women's Doubles

Czech duo Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova beat Nicole Melichar and Kveta Peschke to clinch the Wimbledon Women's Doubles trophy. They scored a 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 win over their opponents. This is also their second back-to-back Grand Slam win since they won the French Open in June. They have now become the first pair since 2003 to win the French Open and Wimbledon back-to-back. The 22-year-olds had also won the Juniors title in 2013. They are now the first duo to claim both the girls' and women's doubles titles at the All England Club.

"At the beginning of the tournament, I wouldn't have expected this," Siniakova said, ESPN reported. "Now I'm here, and we have two titles. It feels just amazing."

"Juniors, it was also amazing, the feeling," Siniakova said. "But this stage, it's much, much bigger."

For Krejcikova, the win was more special for another reason. Their title came exactly 20 years after her mentor and compatriot Jana Novotna won the Wimbledon singles title. Novotna died from ovarian cancer in November last year. As she did at the French Open in June, Krejcikova blew a kiss to the sky following the match.

"I'm really, really proud," Krejcikova told Stuff. "I think she would be really proud, too."

ESPN reported, "After winning their first major title at the French Open last month, the Czech duo, both 22, emphatically saw off a comeback attempt from fellow-Czech Peschke and American Melichar. With just one point separating the teams after the opening two sets were split, the third-seeded Krejcikova and Siniakova lifted their level against their 12th-seeded opposition to win 28 of 39 points and every game in the decider."

In the men's doubles, Mike Bryan and Jack Sock beat Raven Klaasen and Michael Venus to grab the Wimbledon title. Mike won his record-tying 17th Grand Slam men's doubles title, and first without his brother, by teaming with fellow American Sock. They beat their opponents 6-3, 6-7 (7), 6-3, 5-7, 7-5 in the Wimbledon final.
