Cyclonic Storm: Another cyclonic storm, Cyclone Yaas, is closing in on the eastern coast and very likely to cross the Odisha and the West Bengal coastlines on May 26 (Wednesday), the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday.
It may also intensify into a "very severe cyclonic storm" and heavy rainfall can be foreseen on Saturday morning, according to the IMD.
The Centre has alerted both Odisha and West Bengal about the devastating impact it might bring upon the people in the coming week.
In its latest update, the IMD has said a low-pressure area is likely to hit by the storm presently forming over the Bay of Bengal and the adjoining north Andaman Sea today which is very likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm by Monday. There's also a high possibility of the formation of a depression over the next 72-120 hours over the Bay of Bengal.

The Centre has also issued warnings in coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and asked the authorities to prepare for the storm. The coastline areas should be ready with health facilities and essential medicines and supplies to meet any emergencies in the wake of Cyclone Yaas which is expected to make landfall on Wednesday.
It would most likely cross West Bengal and the adjoining north Odisha and Bangladesh coasts around the evening of May 26, the IMD added. The Odisha government is taking all the necessary precautions and has urged the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard to be prepared for the upcoming situation. There may be widespread rains in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and districts of the east coast that may cause inland flooding, according to reports.
Last week, Cyclone Tauktae hit the Gujarat coast and left a devastating impact all over the western coast.
