Cycle Girl Jyoti Kumari Paswan: Bihar's cycle girl Jyoti Paswan, who brought her father Mohan Paswan on a bicycle for 1200 km to Darbhanga from Gurugram during the lockdown in 2020, reportedly lost him to a heart attack. Mohan Paswan passed away on Monday at his village.
The Paswan's were the natives of Sirhulli village of Darbhanga. Last year, when the coronavirus took over our lives 15-year-old Jyoti did not just walk for miles but decided to carry her injured father from Delhi to Darbhanga, Bihar – almost 1,200 kilometres – on a bicycle. She cycled with her ailing father who had lost his job, suffered a leg injury. Jyoti's father Mohan Paswan was an auto driver in Gurugram, but due to an accident in January 2020, he suffered a major leg injury. After hearing the news of the accident, Jyoti went to her father for care. Meanwhile, in March 2020 the lockdown came in place which put many daily wage earners in a difficult situation. Jyoti and her father had only Rs 600 when they left Delhi. So, they bought a bicycle worth Rs 500 and saved the rest of the money for the journey.
Teen girl Jyoti is supposed to be honoured with the Prime Minister's National Children's Award 2021. Kumari is also set to star in a film being made on her journey. She will be playing herself in the film reportedly titled Atmanirbhar (self-reliant). Jyoti said “Bahut achha lag raha hai (I feel very good),” when asked about signing up for the film. The biopic is being made by Wemakefilmz in Hindi, English, Maithili.
As per the latest news, DM Darbhanga Dr SM Tyagarajan has confirmed the death. Further, they have informed that BDO of concerned block, Singhbara, was sent to provide assistance to the Sirhulli village.
