After moving to Gurgaon from Indore after her marriage, Prerna Dugar had been striving to do something creative and productive with her time. First, she thought of opening an ethnic wear boutique, similar to one she had been running in Indore with her sister. But after assessing the market she veered towards the idea of curating beautiful home décor and utility products. This led to the inception of her company KraftDeck, where she also designs and creates products.
Prerna says her husband has been a constant source of encouragement. “I get some of the stuff from the UK and US. And from within the country, I source the glass and wooden base. Finding the desired products also took months of hard work and running in the heat from one market to another in Delhi, Kota, and Indore."
“I love to see a smile on my clients face when they enjoy the piece of art that I create for them that adorns their living spaces.”
In spite, the constant and consistent efforts required Prerna says, “I love my work. And I love to see a smile on my clients face when they enjoy the piece of art that I create for them that adorns their living spaces. KraftDeck is slowly growing with the sales and orders coming from across the country.”
Prerna, who has a bachelor's in Business Administration, feels that entrepreneurship has enabled her to empower many others like her. And it is really not about having financial independence but having a conducive and nurturing outlet to her creativity. She has been effectively able to chart a vision and plan for her company.
“A supporting family is the first step for women to pursue an entrepreneurial journey.”
She says, “A supporting family is the first step for women to pursue an entrepreneurial journey. My family has been very supportive and have continued to help me with my work.”
Prerna aspires to mold KraftDeck as a leading home decor and art brands in the coming five years. She wants to work with renowned interior designers and luxury home decor companies. She adds, “I want to establish a steady customer base around the world. I am also working on innovating on a lot of new products for my company, expanding to a team of at least 25 employees and also chasing a turnover goal of five crores in the coming years.”
