In a landmark move, the Central Reserve Police Force has inducted its women personnel in Bhopal, Indore and Ujjain to help police maintain law and order during elections.
CRPF IG (MP sector) P K Pandey said that it has inducted a contingent of 90 women officers up to the rank of DSP in three cities of Madhya Pradesh. “They are performing their duty sincerely for whatever task is assigned to them. This is the first time that we have deployed women force for elections in MP,” he said.
While this is the first time for MP to have women personnel, it has appointed them in only three districts. “CRPF deploys women cops when their services are sought by the local police. We will deploy more women personnel if there is a demand,” Pandey told TOI.

For women personnel, they are only performing their duty. They said, “CRPF is one of the most disciplined forces in the country. We're only performing our duty. We are doing whatever we are asked to do to maintain law and order.”
“We have a full women battalion functioning in Chhattisgarh. The battalion also has commandoes. For your records, they are doing an excellent job there”
Pandey referred to the example of Chhattisgarh where a battalion of women officers are functioning. “We have a full women battalion functioning in Chhattisgarh. The battalion also has commandoes. For your records, they are doing an excellent job there,” he said.
CRPF recruited women for the first time in 1986-87 and they are performing their duties as well as men. It is the only Paramilitary force in the country to have six women’s battalions. Women officers have won laurels for their performance in the Meerut riots and with the IPKF in Sri Lanka.
