A criminal case was registered against actress Kangana Ranaut for allegedly demeaning the farmers protesting against the controversial farm bills. In a tweet dated September 20, Ranaut referred to the protesting farmers as “terrorists”. Following her comments, a case was lodged at Karnataka’s Tumkur JMFC Court against her, suggest news reports.

“These Are The Same Terrorists”
Kangana Ranaut allegedly offended sentiments when she compared the farmers and opposition leaders to terrorists and the anti-CAA protesters. Last week, Ranuat retweeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tweet about the farm bills and the proposed MSP system, writing, “Prime Minister, if anyone’s sleeping, they can be woken up, if someone doesn’t understand, they can be explained, but what can be done when someone is acting to be asleep or doesn’t want to understand? These are the same terrorists. Not one citizenship was lost due CAA, but they ended up spilling so much blood.”
As per an India Today Report, authorities have registered the case under Sections 44, 108, 153, 153A and 504 of IPC.

Kangana Ranaut’s Opinions On Farmer Bills
Kangana Ranaut has been very vocal about her support for the farm bills on Twitter. On September 21, Ranaut reshared a Times of India article about her aforementioned tweet. She wrote, “People who spread misinformation and rumours about CAA that caused riots are the same people who are now spreading misinformations about Farmers bill and causing terror in the nation, they are terrorists. You very well know what I said but simply like to spread misinformation.”
On the same day, she also reshared her original tweet and challenged everyone to find any fault with it. She wrote, “Just as Shri Krishna had a Narayani army, Pappu also has a champu army that only knows how to fight through rumors. This is my original tweet, if anyone can prove that I’m calling farmers terrorists, I will apologize and leave Twitter forever. "
Last week, the Parliament discussed three new farm bills. Reportedly, the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, and the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill aim to transform agriculture in India and raise farmers’ income. However, the proposed bills are currently facing widespread protests from Indian farmers.

On September 18, Harsimrat Kaur Badal stepped down as Food Processing Industries Minister, protesting against the Agricultural Bill. "I have resigned from Union Cabinet in protest against anti-farmer ordinances and legislation. Proud to stand with farmers as their daughter and sister," Badal wrote in a tweet.
