Covid Orphan CBSE Topper in Bhopal: What is the most difficult thing for a child to digest? The news of his/her parents' death? That's exactly what happened with 16 year old Vanisha Pathak who lost both her parents to COVID-19 during the second wave. Her classmates were studying hard for their upcoming class X exams when Vanisha lost both her parents within a matter of few days. Despite the humungous loss, she managed to ace her exams and has scored 99.8%.
With this, she has also emerged as one of Bhopal's Class X toppers. Vanisha scored perfect 100 in English, Sanskrit, Science and 97 in Maths.
Vanisha is a student of Carmel Convent, BHEL. In an interview with TOI, the 16-year-old girl said that she has to overcome her grief and move ahead in life for her younger brother adding that she wants to be in IIT or crack UPSC and serve the nation as that's what her father wanted her to do. Her father Jeetendra Kumar Pathak was a financial advisor. Her mother Dr Seema Pathak was a government schoolteacher. She lost her mother on 4 May and father on 15 May. She said that she was informed about both her parents' death after her father passed away.
The girl is also fond of writing poems. She has written one dedicated to her father. The brother-sister duo now live with their maternal uncle Dr Ashok Kumar, a professor at Govt MVM College in Bhopal.
It is heartening to see girls showing exemplary courage in face of adversity. Another such inspiring story is of Kerala based Gopika G who passed the Higher Secondary examination with flying colours despite losing both her parents to a tragic landslide that hit layams (line houses) of plantation workers in Pettimudi in Kerala’s Idukki district. The meritorious girl aspires to be a doctor and is working day and night to fulfil her dream. Read more about her here.
