The DMK MP Kanimozhi casts vote while wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), after she tested positive for COVID-19 on April 3.
Kanimozhi along with several other COVID-19 positive patients in their PPE cast their votes between 6 to 7 PM. The hour had been designated for COVID-19 positive voters.

Kanimozhi casts vote at a polling booth in Mylapore, Chennai, where she arrived in an ambulance. Before the COVID-19 positive voters arrived, all of the polling stations personnel wore PPE kits. The polling stations were later sanitised. The polling staff was instructed to wear PPE kits, face shields, and hand gloves. The COVID-19 positive patients were also wearing the same.
Kanimozhi is a politician, poet, and journalist. As a Member of Parliament (MP), she represents the Thoothukkudi constituency in the Lok Sabha. Kanimozhi is also a former MP in the Rajya Sabha where she represented Tamil Nadu. She is the president of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) women’s wing. As a member of DMK, she is the chief of their wing for Art, Literature and Rationalism.
Kanimozhi is the daughter of the late Muthuvel Karunanidhi, ten-time president of DMK and the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. She is also the president of The Hindu National Press staff union. Kanimozhi is the first woman to be elected to that post. As a journalist, she was a sub-editor for The Hindu, editor in charge of Kungumam, and features editor for Tamil Murasu.
The voting for the Tamil Nadu Assembly began at 7 AM on April 6. By the end of the day, 65 per cent of the registered voters in Tamil Nadu cast their votes. The results for the Tamil Nadu Assembly Election will be declared on May 2.
