Bhasha Mukherjee, who won the Miss England crown in 2019 has decided to hang up her crown and go back to the stethoscope to join in the fight against COVID-19. Bhasha has returned to the United Kingdom from overseas charity work and will go back to work as a junior doctor after finishing 14 days in self-isolation.
Who is Bhasha Mukherjee?
Bhasha Mukherjee is an English-Indian doctor and model who became Miss England in 2019. The 24-year-old completed her graduation from the University of Nottingham. Apart from being Miss England 2019 she also competed in Miss World 2019 and was in top-40.
Bhasha was born in Kolkata in India and at the age of eight, they moved to the UK. She specializes in respiratory medicine. In a recent interview, she said "there's no better time for me to be Miss England and helping England at a time of need."
The beauty queen, took a break from her medical profession to focus on charity work after competing in the Miss World competition. She has recently returned to the United Kingdom to help medical professionals. Bhasha says it feels wrong to be wearing the Miss England crown now while working in the hospital when people around her are dying because of the deadly infection novel coronavirus.
She said, "When you are doing all this humanitarian work abroad, you're still expected to put the crown on, get ready... look pretty." And added: "I wanted to come back home. I wanted to come and go straight to work."
She got a whole lot of messages from her colleagues telling her how hard the situation is getting for them. She works at the Pilgrim Hospital, in Boston, eastern England.
Bhasha said, "I felt a sense of this is what I'd got this degree for and what better time to be part of this particular sector than now."
"It was incredible the way the whole world was celebrating all key workers, and I wanted to be one of those, and I knew I could help," she added.

Countries she has visited by now
Bhasha Mukherjee was in India at the beginning of March for a community charity on behalf of the Coventry Mercia Lions Club, a charity for which she was ambassador, CNN reported. They visited several schools have donated stationery, and also gave money to a home for abandoned girls. She has visited many other countries for the cause such as Africa, Turkey, Pakistan and several other Asian countries.
As of Tuesday, The Guardian quoted 55,242 confirmed cases in the UK with 6,159 reported deaths due to COVID-19.
