According to Sarwan Singh Pandher, the president of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee on Thursday, when farmers were protesting against land acquisition on the Delhi-Katra National Highway, the protesting woman farmer was slapped by a police officer.
He also claimed that the police were using physical force against the farmers, even removing their turbans. He also claimed that women were verbally abused as well. Several farmers were also detained, according to Pandher.

The farmers are reportedly protesting over the issue of compensation in regard to the purchase of land for the Bharatmala project, according to Gurbachan Singh Chabba, a spokesperson for the KMC. Despite the government acquiring land for the Bharatmala project, he alleged that the farmers were not being fairly compensated. He condemned the government and its police to have forcibly removed farmers from their farmland.
Earlier this month, Gurdaspur farmers staged a rail blockade protest in opposition to the purchase of land for the Bharatmala Project, which entails the construction of motorways. The national and state governments had been denounced by farmers who had parked their tractors on the railway tracks and erected banners. However, after receiving assurances from the district administration, the protests were aborted.
